Eastern Visayas Integrated Agricultural Research Center (EVIARC) |
The Eastern Visayas Integrated Agricultural Research Center (EVIARC) is a strategic Research and Development (R and D) Network for agriculture covering the different agroecological production systems in Eastern Visayas. EVIARC was organized in 1991 through Administrative Order 6 and 19 which, mandated the implementation and operationalization of the Department of Agriculture's Stations' Rationalization Program (SRP). It created in every region a Regional Integrated Agricultural Research Center (RIARC). In Region 8, it established the EVIARC, which merged 15 stations and facilities into one RIARC and 6 major stations to compose the Research Outreach Stations (ROSes). The then Abuyog Experiment Station, in Abuyog, Leyte was transformed into a nerve center for Research and Development activities of EVIARC with its 6 ROS. Each of the 6 ROSes represented a particular development focus, such as:
Under these ROSes were the facilities that were retained and transformed to form part of the ROS. In the early part of 1995, however, the department adopted a sectoral (crops, livestock and fisheries) orientation of agricultural program planning and implementation. With this, EVIARC realigned its ROSes and facilities and created three sub-networks, namely: (1) the Crops Sector, (2) the Livestock Sector, and (3) the Fisheries Sector. Each of these sub-networks is composed of ROSes and facilities to focus on a specific sector or commodity.
